General Information: A large rapid growing tree that is most commonly found living in soil that is rich, fertile, and moist such as along stream beds or in moist woods. This tree is free of any insect or fungi diseases. Bark is grayish-brown and older trees have diamond-shaped fissures.

Leaves are pinnately compound, oppositely arranged along the branches, and there are 5-9 leaflets on each twig. The leaflets 3-5" long, and the margins are entire or with few rounded teeth. The leaflets are dark-green on the top, and smooth, almost silvery on the bottom.

The fruit is a winged seed 1-2" long and shaped like a canoe paddle. They appear in hanging clusters which often remain attached for several months after ripening in fall.
